But there’s one thing we agree on.
“Fixing our political districts is a key step to preserving Ohio’s democracy.” Akron Beacon-Journal, 9/1/23
We don’t like politicians and lobbyists rigging the system for themselves. “This constitutional amendment, if approved, would end secret backroom negotiations to carve up the state and handshake deals between political power brokers and lobbyists.” The Hill, 8/27/24

“As things now stand, partisan hacks draw Ohio House and Senate districts to favor the politicians”
Columbus Dispatch, 7/2/24
Ohio’s voting districts were so badly rigged, they’ve been deemed unconstitutional seven times. In 2021 and 2022, the Ohio Redistricting Commission ignored seven different bipartisan Ohio Supreme Court rulings against Statehouse and Congressional map proposals, eventually running out the clock to a point a split federal court ordered maps that had been declared unconstitutional to be used for the November 2022 election.”
Ohio Capital Journal, 8/15/23
Seven times !“Is Ohio gerrymandered? Yes. It’s practically a tradition in the Buckeye state.”
Signal Cleveland, 2/2/24
Issue 1 would stop politicians from drawing rigged districts by creating an open process to draw fair ones. “Issue 1 will empower Ohio citizens to draw fair and impartial voting districts in an open and transparent process.”
Sentinel-Tribune, 9/11/24

“The proposed new commission would be comprised of Democrats, Republicans and independents who represent the state’s different geographic areas and demographics. Present and former politicians, political party officials and lobbyists would be excluded from the commission.”
Columbus Dispatch, 8/26/24
It’s why we all agree. Yes on Issue 1.“Members of Ohio’s Redistricting Commission were served notice… that ordinary Ohioans have had enough of the mess the commission purposefully made of our voting districts.”
Salem News, 7/4/24

“Spearheading the quest for a 2024 fair-districts amendment is retired Republican Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor, who is also a former lieutenant governor. And among other prominent Republicans calling for fair apportionment is former Ohio Attorney General Betty D. Montgomery, who also served as state auditor and in the state Senate.”
Plain-Dealer, 8/20/24
Damn right. “Ohioans agree this is a problem; and have decided change is coming.”
The Intelligencer, 77/31/24
