Case Closed: Vote Yes on 1

ScriptBackground
Lady justice wears a blindfold, because the law shouldn’t favor one person or group“Successful government in the United States is predicated on the notion that people who seek elected office will carry out their duties in good faith. Sadly, in Ohio at least, when it comes to drawing the lines for congressional and Statehouse districts, good faith goes out the window.”
When I was Chief Justice, our Supreme Court ruled gerrymandered voting district maps unconstitutional seven times“This is the gerrymandering that was forced by politicians on Ohio voters in 2022, despite a total of seven bipartisan Ohio Supreme Court rulings against the Statehouse and Congressional district maps as unconstitutionally gerrymandered.”
Politicians drew the maps to benefit themselves and their party“Over the past two decades, legislative leaders have been more brazen in drawing political maps that are geographic absurdities – the most gerrymandered in Ohio history.”
Now politicians are lying about Issue 1“The official language that will appear on your ballot, however, is almost comically the opposite of the proposed language and inserts clear, political attacks against it.”
Well, justice is blind, but we aren’t“Ohio voters have seen through these machinations in the past, and they appear to be unphased by them now.”
Issue 1 brings accountability by banning politicians from drawing voting maps “Power often corrupts people who suddenly find themselves in a position to protect or enrich themselves. That’s especially true of politicians, who are increasingly behaving like zealots rather than statesmen.”
And restores power where it belongs: with citizens“State Issue 1 on the Ohio ballot is simply a question of whom do you trust. Stripped of charge and countercharge of gerrymandering for political advantage, the issue is who should draw the lines used for Congressional and state legislative representation. Citizens can and should do the job, and this constitutional amendment will allow that to happen.”
Vote yes on Issue 1“Ohio Issue 1 would give more power to voters.”
